Big Bags and Flip-flops

"Antojo" is the Spanish word for 'fancy', or a sudden liking or desire. I named this little space in the Internet as such because I will most likely be writing just about anything that will take my fancy. In other words, there will be no specific themes, whatsoever. I take pleasure in randomness of things. As for me, I am a twenty- something who have lived in three different cities in the Philippines. I write stuff for a living but would rather spend the time giving in to my "itchy feet". The name's KAT, by the way. :)

Cans Have A Purpose

My cousin, K, lives in England. She grew up learning to follow the “NO LITTERING” rule. I live in the Philippines. Sadly, littering here is as normal as the call of nature. I was bound to do the same since that was the example I grew up to see (In the eyes of a child, whatever the adults do is right!). However, unknowingly my cousin saved me from being one of Mother Nature’s betrayer.

We were very young then when she told me to hold on to my candy wrappers (I like eating candies.) until we see a trash can. I remember insisting that I didn’t have a pocket. To which she gave a rebuttal that I can put it inside my shoe. You can just imagine my face at that time. I’ve never heard of putting trash in my shoe just because I can see no can where I can put it. She is two years my junior but she can be a bit domineering sometimes.

Anyway, to cut the long story short, I gave in. Since then, I always see to it that my trash falls in a bin and not on a street or anywhere that is not a bin. Later, I realized that I was actually doing myself and the future generation a favor.

My teacher once told us:

“Imagine if all the people in the world will throw a single candy wrapper on the street. Think that there are billions of people living on Earth. What do you think will happen?”

Well, I guess we all know what happened. :(
